Great Weekend!

I was very lucky this weekend, and got the whole weekend off! As a bonus the weather has also been absolutely fantastic!

Of course my favourite day off activity is horseback riding! I was really into it this weekend! Saffy used to be really hard to ride when I first got here, but lately I have been able to ride her with just the bit and reigns, no saddle, and she was great! Well this weekend, I decided to try riding her without the bit, outside the round pen......long story short I went flying off her back! I wasn't hurt or anything, but it was quite the shocker, and the first time I have fallen off a horse in about four years!

Saffy and I before I took the bit out, and went flying!

Anyhow, we have had a pumpkin tastic week! People have been bringing us tonnes of pumpkins, and for fun I made a little display of them! I also smashed the rotten ones, and gave them to the pigs, who loved them! I was covered in pumpkin, but I didn't care! There is just something oddly satisfying about smashing them.

Today I decided to go on a run through the woods. I can't believe that it is still warm enough to run comfortably! It's still sweater weather! Really odd considering it's November. Anyhow, the woods were so pretty, and I couldn't help but take some pictures along my run to capture it!

Last night was November the 5th. In England this is known as Guy Fawkes night, or Firework night. Since the majority of residences here at Sandy Pines are British, we decided to have a bonfire! It was so much fun eating snacks, singing campfire songs, and telling stories with all the other interns. I am so glad Sue allowed us to do it!

The clocks have changed so I look foreword to it being a little brighter in the mornings! I feel this sudden rush to complete my intern projects, and take photos of the wildlife, because.....

In 20 days I go home!

I have been helping Alex complete her intern project. She is trying to create a contraption that will allow us to feed the turkey vultures without them seeing us. The plan is to stick a piece of wood through the sheets we put along the walls, and sling meat over it, so that way they don't see us, and they also get a bit of enrichment! Its been fun helping her put this together!

We are overwintering some of our baby turtles. These two we call the "yoga turtles"! They like to sit on each other! (photo creds: Meghan)

I absolutely love our flying squirrel! She is hard to get a photo of though, because she moves around so fast!
